Energy Star

Egergy Star compliance

As part of the Ricoh Family Group, Infotec have recently entered into voluntary partnership of the Energy Star Program, a partnership set up between the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Energy (DOE) and private industry. Our parent company Ricoh and manufacturer of our current model range were the first copier manufacturer to sign the EPA Energy Star "Memorandum of Understanding" promoting energy conservation. Ricoh is the only company to have been named "EPA Imaging Partner of the Year," 5 years running, and to have received the program's highest award, "Labelling Partner of the Year" in 2000.

The Energy Star program accomplishes its goals via market-driven means, not government mandate. It works very simply. EPA and DOE promote the economic advantages of energy-efficient products and then identify compliant products to consumers.

Why buy Energy Star?

As consumers ourselves we appreciate the financial impact that energy savings can have, so we constantly strive to provide ‘best in class’ energy-efficient equipment. In addition to helping protect the environment, Energy Star frees billions of dollars of needless energy spending. The money saved goes back into the economy - instead of up in smoke.

Myths about energy efficient office equipment

Myth: When equipment is turned 'on' there is a power surge so large that leaving your equipment 'on' consumes less energy.
Reality: If present (which is not always the case) then the duration of this power surge is so small (seconds) that it is comparable to a few seconds in 'on' mode. Whenever your equipment is not used for a few minutes, it makes sense to turn it off or (let it) switch to a low power mode.

Myth: Turning off or power managing computers and printers causes network problems
Reality: Although this certainly was true in the early days of power management and networked equipment, this is nowadays no longer the case. Proper up to date network software and modern day power management software (e.g. ACPI) allow for pc's and other equipment to enter low power modes while still being able to receive signals from the network.

Myth: Using recycled paper increases the number of paper jams in copiers and printers, thus increasing paper use in offices
Reality: Although many of us had these experiences they are quite avoidable. Make sure when buying new equipment that the manufacturer and suppliers are prepared to guarantee effective performance in these areas.

Myth: Refilled toner cartridges leak everywhere and make an incredible mess
Reality: As with recycled paper this problem is avoidable. At Infotec we have been supplying remanufactured and refilled toner cartridges for many years.
